Message Notes

Key Insight: Influence- the capacity, to have an effect on the character, development, or behavior of someone or something, or the effect itself.

  • Influence is power; when you are under the influence of something or someone it is evident to those around you that a power not your own is guiding & directing your thoughts and actions.

Key Scripture (Psalm 91:4): He shall cover you with His feathers, And under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler.

Key Scripture (Psalm 91:11-12): For He shall give His angels charge over you, To keep you in all your ways. In their hands they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone.

Important Note: [Influence] Right at the inauguration of Jesus' ministry He was led to a wilderness (by the Spirit) and exposed to the influence of Satan, who famously quoted this exact verse (but with a twisted context.)

Question to ask yourself: When was last time you considered all the things God spared you from?

Key Scripture (Psalm 91:13): You shall tread upon the lion and the cobra, The young lion and the serpent you shall trample underfoot.

Important Takeaway: We have been given authority to exert His influence upon the circumstances of life!

Key Scripture (Luke 10:19): Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

About Lions, Snakes, and Dragons:

Lion: loud, blatant, completes a full frontal attack, you will see it, and know it is coming. Its roar can be heard from miles away.

Young Lion: comparable to small, less noticeable irritants that nag at you, and have assignments to upset you, they may look harmless (cute) but if left unattended they will develop into full grown lions, consuming your focus and attention.

Cobra: sneaky, slithering, problems you didn’t see coming, they will blindside you. Such as: a faithful friend that turns disloyal to you, someone who betrays your trust and breaks your confidence, a bad doctor's report, or an unexpected death of one you love.

Dragon: in the original Hebrew this is listed as a "sea monster.” Sea monsters or dragons are not real, they are comparable to a child being afraid of a monster under their bed. They are vogue imaginations, but the fear and anguish they invoke is very real indeed.

All of us have been “influenced” with imaginative threats in the mind:

  • “your not good enough”
  • “your too (old/young)”
  • “your sick”
  • “you are going to die”

Key Scripture (2 Corinthians 10:4-5): For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.

Important Takeaway: Don’t spend your life running from something that is not even chasing you.

Important Takeaway: "You shall trample on all of these things.." - you influence them!

Concluding Scripture (Psalm 91:14-16): “Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name. He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him, And show him My salvation.”

Concluding Scripture (Luke 24:44): Then He said to them, “These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me.”
